The "About me" is the one part of a biodata that families read slowly - and the part most people struggle with. A good one is 70-110 words, in the first person, and built only from true, specific details.

A simple structure

  1. What you do - one line about work or study.
  2. What you care about - family, values, faith, causes.
  3. How you spend time - two or three specific interests.
  4. What you hope for - one line about married life.

Phrases to avoid

"Fair", "homely", "convent-educated", "well-settled", "simple living high thinking", "God-fearing" with nothing else. They say little and can sound outdated. Replace them with something specific: "I cook for my family every Sunday" says more than "homely".

Examples

1. Girl, working professional

I work as a senior consultant at a Big Four firm in Gurugram and take my career seriously, but my family is at the centre of my life. I trained in Kathak for eight years and still dance when I can, love trekking, and spend weekends cooking for the people I care about. I hope for a partnership built on respect, where we encourage each other's work and grow together as a family.

2. Boy, engineer

I'm a software engineer in Bengaluru, working on payments products. I grew up in Indore in a close joint family and still call home every evening. I play badminton on weekends, read history, and enjoy long drives. I'm looking for a partner who values family as much as her own goals, and with whom I can build a calm, honest home.

3. Doctor

I'm a second-year MD resident in paediatrics in Pune - long hours, but work I love. My parents are both teachers, and I've grown up valuing education and simplicity. When I'm off duty I sketch, cook South Indian food and catch up on sleep! I'd like a partner who understands a medical career and enjoys quiet weekends as much as I do.

4. Business family

I help run our family's textile business in Surat, focused on exports and the new online store. I'm practical, enjoy numbers, and believe in keeping commitments. Outside work I volunteer at our community trust and play cricket on Sundays. I'm looking for someone warm and independent-minded who would enjoy being part of a large, lively family.

5. NRI

I've lived in Seattle for six years and work as a product manager at a cloud company. I'm close to my parents in Hyderabad and visit twice a year. I love hiking, cooking Hyderabadi food for friends, and travelling. I'm looking for a partner open to living in the US for the next few years, who values both family and independence.

6. Second marriage

I'm a chartered accountant in Jaipur and a father to a seven-year-old daughter, who is my world. Life has taught me patience and gratitude. I enjoy gardening, old Hindi music, and weekend trips with my family. I'm hoping to find a kind, understanding partner to share a calm and happy home with.

7. Government job

I'm a section officer with the state government in Lucknow. I value stability, honesty and family, and I'm the one my cousins call when they need help. I enjoy reading, morning walks and devotional music. I hope to build a home with someone gentle, educated and family-oriented.

8. Teacher

I teach English at a CBSE school in Chandigarh and love seeing children grow in confidence. I'm cheerful, organised and close to my two younger sisters. I paint, enjoy classical music and like to travel to the hills. I'm looking for a respectful, kind partner who supports my work.
